Call Accounting Mate Q&A / Re: Memory Utilization
« on: October 07, 2010, 03:27:44 PM »
So it seems that CAM does not use very many system resources. This is good if you are using it on a workstation. However, if you are using it on a dedicated server and need to run large reports or process a large amount of data, it makes it very slow. I am currently importing some old smdr logs to rebuild data. It is processing about 140 calls a minute. You would think that this would be an intensive proces. But as I watch in task manager, Bill.exe only uses about 2-5% of the CPU and has only consumed 82mb of memory. I can only imagine if it would use more processor that data would get processed more quickly.

No this product is not dead. We have been working on a new release to this product for the past year. We expect it to be available in the new year!

So, another year and no major upgrade. Last bug fix released per your Version History was 11/2009, which actually occurred before your quote. I realize you still have a couple of months to produce the new version, but I won't get my hopes up since I have been waiting for 4 years for a major overhaul of the software. As you can see in this thread, you have been promising that major new version every year for the past four years and have not delivered.

That is pretty much why you lost me as a customer.

Perhaps BlackDove could provide a link to the discussion about memory? I did a search and only found this thread and one other. The other thread just stated that a larger database requires more memory. Which based on what I posted here in 2008, CAM does not appear to take advantage of more memory.

What we need to know is if there are ways to improve performance without eliminating call records.

Call Accounting Mate Q&A / Re: Tech Support????

I have paid for support twice and I have received it in the past, but they tend to lose interest unless you hound them. They appear to be very busy doing something, but it does not appear to involve upgrading their software or providing consistent support.

I just got my support renewal and I am wondering if I should pay it. I have been waiting for three years to see a major product upgrade and so far all I have seen are very minor dot.dot.dot revisions that have fixed minor bugs and provided no feature requests or major performance gains.

Is this a dead product, just trying to suck a dollar or two out of unsuspecting buyers?

The next release of CAM is now expected to be release in late 2008. Please continue to check both the forums and our website for details.

Thank you.

I was expecting a major upgrade in Late 2008. Looks like we only got a bug fix and some driver updates. Is there really a major upgrade in the works?

Call Accounting Mate Q&A / Memory Utilization
« on: September 11, 2008, 08:12:31 PM »
So, I have a 4gb database file now and I kicked off a backup. It took about 90 minutes to complete the backup. The temp file was about 1.4gb in size and the GZ file was 158mb.

During the entire process, bill.exe only consumed 19mb of system memory and 9mb of virtual memory. There is over 700mb of system memory free. Considering how slow CAM is, wouldn't it benefit from using more system memory? If I give it 2gb of system memory, will it actually use more? It doesn't seem like it based on this performance.

It seem like CAM is trying to manipulate 4gb of data with only 18mb of system memory - no wonder it is slow. Also, it actually performs very little disk IO while it is working on reports and other non-backup functions.

Is there a setting I can tweak to get it to use more memory to improve performance? Or am I missing something?

Well, another year has come and gone without another version of the software. Are you even still in business? These forums look pretty slow. I would be nice to not have to dump this years data.

CAM will have a new SQLite version 3.x in the new year.  It will also have a new report writer.  You will find performance increased.

Regards,
callaccounting.ws

Any idea when this will happen?

When I purchased CAM in Dec of 2005, I was told the new version was expected in Feb of 2006. It's now over a year later, the application still drags with less than a years worth of data in it and no new version.

I too see very slow performance when running reports. We have less than 100 extensions in used and data gathered since June I believe. Some of the canned reports will finish quickly, but if you stray you pay a heavy penalty. It is not uncommon for reports to take 10-20 minutes to complete, during which time the web server is innaccessible. I don't want to dump data because our company would like to get yearly reports.

The strange thing is, when reports are running, the CPU utilization does not run high except every once in a while and when the report is actually generated, disk activity isn't that high, nor is swap file usage. Is this an inherent weakness in SQLite or CAM? We have plenty of disk space and I have increased the RAM before without any noticable improvement.

We get the same type of result if we use ODBC utilities to access the database. We been trying to get around the CAM interface to create more extensive reports and to improve performance, but it would be great if the normal ones performed better.

Have you tested your software in a virtual environment like VMWARE Server or MS Virtual Server? Both products are now free, so cost of the product should not be a factor in evaluating.

You could even create pre-packaged virtual machines for people to evaluate your software on.

Enhancement Suggestions for Call Accounting Mate / Enhancement Requests
« on: January 09, 2006, 01:34:17 PM »
After using CAM for several weeks now, I have a couple of requests for future enhancements:

1. A Supervisor Level User object - They would have access to the task scheduler, report filters and maybe even the ability to manage groups. I don't want people having access to the hardware level stuff, but I don't want to be responsible for setting up all the reports.

2. Ability to save reports directly to file.

3. Enhanced Task Scheduler that allows the following:
Weekday only reports
Reports that repeat every hour for X number of hours.

4. The ability to move users from Department to Department without deleting and adding the user.

5. An all Extension view instead of just Extensions under Departments. Sometimes I would like to see all the configured Extensions, User and Department. This would also make it easier to manage the Departments, they could be a drop-down list per extension.

6. I would like the From and To Date/Time to show up in the Report header instead of the Run Date/Time. Either the option to choose what shows up or have both included. When running a summary report for a previous day, you have no way to tell what data is being displayed.

7. Ability to customize and eliminate Graphs from reports.

Thank you.
